Voice of Truth
What is it?
A fake security camera that talks back.
When someone walks past, it detects movement and suddenly plays unexpected voice lines about patriarchy, gender roles, or just slightly unhinged commentary.
It looks like it’s watching you… but instead, it’s the one speaking.
Why did we make it?
Public spaces already feel tense for a lot of people, especially women.
Being watched, judged, or uncomfortable is kind of a daily thing.
We wanted to flip that feeling.
Instead of a camera silently observing you, it reacts in a way that’s surprising, a bit funny, and maybe even relieving.
It’s not here to scare you, it’s here to interrupt that normal pressure and make you pause, laugh, or think for a second.
How does it work?
We built it using an Arduino setup with a motion sensor.
When the sensor detects someone passing by, it triggers audio that we coded into the system.
The sound plays through a small speaker hidden inside the fake camera, so it feels like the camera itself is talking to you.
Simple setup, but the effect feels unexpected, which is kind of the whole point.
